چکیده

Electronic communication of the Christian message—online preaching—raises distinct theological challenges. Notwithstanding undeniable convenience and unlimited geographical reach “virtual church”, electronic media have potential to separate preacher from congregants, congregants one another, and—potentially greatest concern—the church God, even while appearing accomplish opposite. Communication theorist Marshall McLuhan (1911–1980) argues provocatively that virtual representation is at cost authentic human identity (in which case it inimical community), French sociologist philosopher Jean Baudrillard (1929–2007) warns substituting for reality, especially in matters theology God. The paradigm Jesus’ Incarnation, by contrast, mandates un-mediated divine-human human-to-human communication, requiring engagement between persons themselves rather than their avatars or provisional simulacra. With respect electronically mediated itself, acknowledging divine initiative formation (as a feature soteriology) understanding (under category revelation) countermands more dehumanizing anti-theological influences both identify, encouraging direct with God person Holy Spirit resorting technological mediation.
